Mince & Onion Pie 70’s school dinner style

Ingredients

  • 1kg Minced Beef
  • 2 large Onions (Diced)
  • 3 Stock Cubes
  • 1 pint Water
  • 3 tablespoons Worcester Sauce
  • Tomato Ketchup – 1 tbspn
  • 2 tbspns flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Two packs puff pastry or short crust pastry if you want to be totally authentical ! (ready made)
  • Optional – mixed frozen veg of choice  – one cup or mix of chopped carrots and leek or any other veges
  • one egg

Directions

Step 1
Heat oil in a large pan and fry the onions until lightly coloured
Step 2
Add the mince to the pan and brown
Step 3
Crumble in the stock cubes and add the Worcester sauce
Step 4
Add half pint of boiling water, flour and tomato ketchup and stir, simmer gently for 30 minutes or so
Step 5
Allow to cool for about 20 minutes
Step 6
Roll out the pasty on a floured board and use half to line a pie dish or flan tin
Step 7
Add the beef mixture and then use the remaining pastry to form a lid
Step 8
Seal the edges well and add a fork pattern if desired
Step 9
Brush the top with the beaten egg mix
Step 10
Bake in a preheated over 190 degree C for 30 minutesSuper !
